Help A Student In Gaza Who Is Critically Injured Evacuate And Get Medical Care

We are a group of MIT students urgently raising money for Hazem, a brave student from Gaza who needs urgent medical help and a chance to continuee his education.

Hazem is a dedicated and ambitious student studying accounting and economics. He was among the top of his class, full of dreams for a better future. But everything changed in an instant.

During a recent bombing in Gaza, Hazem’s family home was hit. His family managed to escape just moments before it was destroyed. After the attack, Hazem insisted on going back to what remained of their house, hoping to find some of his belongings—anything that held memories of the life they once had.

He found nothing but rubble. And while standing in the ruins, the neighboring house was bombed. Hazem was struck in the back by a piece of shrapnel.

His injury is serious, dangerously close to his spine, and has left him with limited mobility. The medical care Hazem needs is simply not available in Gaza. He urgently needs to be transferred to Egypt for treatment, which is extremely costly.

On top of that, Hazem’s university was destroyed in the war. Once he receives the care he needs, he hopes to continue his studies abroad and rebuild the future that was violently taken from him.

Leaving Gaza can cost between $5,000–$7,000 due to the severe restrictions and complicated procedures. The hospital treatment and medications will require at least another $5,000. His older brother and sister will accompany him for support—adding to the total cost.

But it’s not just Hazem who is suffering. His family lost everything. Their home is gone, and they are now living in a tent without safety, warmth, or stability.

We are raising funds to help Hazem receive life-saving treatment, support his family, and give him the chance to continue his education in a safe environment. If we raise more than 12k it will support the family’s other needs. If we don’t meet the target, the money will still go to support the family’s needs.

First of all, thank you so much to everyone who has donated thus far! We have roughly secured the cost of evacuation when the opportunity arises. However, their situation in Gaza has worsened considerably. Hazem‘s family urgently needs support for medication, regular doctor’s visits, food, and supplies.

Hazem’s family was displaced to Al-Mawasi and have been living in a tent for the past month. Seven days ago, due to evacuation orders across Khan Younis, Hazem was transferred out of hospital to the tent due to the current dangerous situation and the targeting of hospitals. He is still immobile and now needs additional support for medication and medical care outside of the hospital, including doctor visits every two days (charged with a fee). His sister’s family also lives with them in one tent, including her three small children as young as 5 years old. They are also urgently in need of food and care to stave off malnutrition.
